IMG_0833.JPGOriginally uploaded by wildwoman creationsSomeone I had just met for the first time asked “what do I create?” I was at a loss for words to describe it. I remember having a customer in the shop. She was from back east. She described my work as “not mainstream” and perhaps would speak to 1 in 10 persons. That came to mind and off I went to search the words “main stream” What I came up with was “Avant-Garde” the concept of avant-garde refers exclusively to marginalised artists, writers, composers and thinkers whose work is not only opposed to mainstream commercial values, but often has an abrasive social or political edge and I read on….has historically been opposed to “high” or “mainstream culture”, and also rejects the artificially synthesized mass culture that has been produced by industrialization, a culture driven by profit-fixated motives and not ideals of true art. So…it’s true!!! there is such a thing as starving artists especially if their work is avant-garde. True advant-garde creativity is distanced from the market-driven fashion change and superficial stylistic innovation that are sometimes used to claim privileged status for these manufactured forms of consumer culture. Oh my God….not only am I advant-garde….I’m a Communist tooo…..(tongue in cheek folks)

Poseidon’s Coronation

Amphitrite’s Jewel Box: “Poseidon’s Coronation”
Materials/Process: The process started by listening to my customers when they were in my gallery. My work is big, bold, heavy, dramatic and intimidating. The biggest complaint has been ” it’s too heavy”. These comments led me to explore aluminum, a medium that is light-weight, cuts with scissors, needs no filing, is dyeable, and is just plain fun to work with.
I focused my attention to the sea which has always been a soothing element for me. Amphitrite’s Jewel Box: “Poseidon’s Coronation” was designed using hand cut aluminum which was colored with metal dyes and accented with hand poured resin sea life and fused dichroic jewel bits and then strung with dyed abalone shell and aurora borealis tear drop beads.
The earrings are hand cut aluminum dyed with metal dyes and accented with resin and fused dichroic jewel bits.
The neck piece bears one of my signature stylings in that the focal centerpiece is designed on the back as well.
The jewel box is essential in my explorations as I live in my own jewel box (my gallery) and I delight in wearing my jewels, playing with my jewels and sharing my jewel box with everyone that visits.
Dimensions HXWXD 2”X20”X1/4” earrings: 2”X1/2”X5/16” PRICE: $125.00

60 YEARS AND COUNTING
January 28, 2008 · No Comments
What a wonderful birthday. The day started and ended with “Snow”at the beach….. in the morning….. light flurries and then we were surprised at 8:30pm with big 50 cent size flakes covering everything. In between, I got to play in the studio, look at a building I want to build, have drinks and appetizers at the new bar the Bay House has opened with vistas overlooking Siletz Bay with my wonderful husband….. While posting this picture, I noticed the number is 1948 (the year I was born)…..Wow….do I feel old or older or any different??? Nope….everything just keeps getting clearer as I progress in life on this earth. Snow again…this time on the float in the backyard. Isnt it funny how certain things that happen in your life are significant but you really do not know why……..For me, it is rainbows that always seem to appear when I just need to know “everything is ok” , sunsets that glorify God’s work and then moon sets and snow flakes…..God’s work is awesome….

What is it like to believe in Jesus CHrist??? PEACE
January 24, 2008 · No Comments
I can only wish that every person on this earth accepts Jesus Christ, that he died for our sins, that he rose to sit at the right hand of God and that he is coming back for us and we will all live the eternal life that is promised to those that believe. Thank you Lord for allowing me to see. I ask for your continued guidance and grace, but in all honesty…..I accept whatever you give me…..

ROSEE SAYS "LAUGH OFTEN" MIXED MEDIA COLLAGE
January 11, 2008 · No Comments
Riez Souvent……laugh often…..you end up with happy wrinkles…..just like the french version of Rosie the wildwoman….ROSEE….
Original art drawn on a transparency and then collaged with so many things I cant begin to tell you what is in the collage. I know I just like it. The paper, the glass beads, the cobweb effect, the setting recessed in a black and silver picture frame that was made into a shadowbox….ROSEE definitely has a story to tell. Almost 60, 16 more days, a little worn, some wrinkles but they are happy wrinkles….ROSEE is ready to live the last third of her life boldly and brightly, color everywhere….. Rosie the wildwoman

Obsessed with needle felting
January 8, 2008 · 1 Comment
Wow…..I have finally found a medium that I can work with at any time, pick it up, lay it down, show customers, take out my aggressions by repeatedly stabbing a sharp barbed needle into colorful wool and every once in a while being brought back to reality when I stab myself. This is a hat I have been working on. I’ve felted Wild Woman, on the hat, some flowers, a face It is a work in progress and I will probably add some more to it…..
